Mário Césariny Chair
Overview
The Mário Cesariny Chair was born from the cooperation agreement between the Instituto Camões IP and the UIB to promote a constant dialogue between both institutions and create programs to promote the Portuguese language and culture at the UIB through teaching programs, research and cultural activities.
The initiatives promoted by the UIB in the Mário Cesariny Chair prioritize (but are not necessarily limited to) the following thematic strands:
- Modernity and avant-garde Portuguese literature and arts. Surrealism in Portugal. Mário Cesariny, life and work.
- Didactics of the Portuguese language and its literature.
- Portuguese cultural studies.
- Portuguese literature and comparative studies.
Head
The Mário Cesariny Chair is led by Professor Perfecto Cuadrado, University Professor of Galician and Portuguese Philology at the UIB, with the support of a Deputy Head, appointed by the Head of the Chair with the approval of the Camões IP.
Financing
The Camões IP supports the Mário Cesariny Chair with 8,000 (eight thousand) euros per year, for the provision of annual academic activities, conditioned by the budget availability of the institute itself.
Activities
The Camões IP, as a financing entity, is also committed to:
- Support scientific culture at the UIB by facilitating bibliographic, audiovisual and multimedia materials from its collection.
- Monitor the execution of this cooperation agreement.
- Award annually a scholarship for a summer course in Portuguese Language and Culture to the best student in the area of Portuguese Studies (selected by the UIB).
The UIB and the Head of the Chair are committed to:
- Carry out the planned activities, prior approval of the Camões IP.
- Write an annual report of activities.
- Ensure the visibility of the support granted by the Camões IP.
